Safety & Contraindications

Brahmi:

  • Sedation: May cause drowsiness in some people — use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery.
  • Thyroid medication: May interact with thyroid hormone levels — monitor if taking thyroid drugs.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Limited data; use under medical supervision.

Vacha:

  • Carcinogenic concerns (β-asarone): North American regulatory agencies caution against long-term internal use due to β-asarone content in some species. Use purified or β-asarone-free forms only.
  • Pregnancy: Avoid during pregnancy due to potential uterine-stimulating effects.
  • Neurological conditions: May overstimulate those with high Pitta or neurological imbalances — avoid high doses in such individuals.

Ashwagandha:

  • Thyroid conditions: May increase thyroid hormone levels — monitor in cases of hyperthyroidism or when using thyroid meds.
